There are several villages in Crete with this name. There's one in the south of the Rethymnon district and there is this village that lies beneath the capital Heraklion. It is reached via the route Heraklion - Knossos - Spilia - Peza - Kalloni - Agios Vasilios. It is a beautiful village situated along a continuous road with quite a bit of traffic, and there are several churches. The biggest of these is the Saint Basil. This church also has a separate bell tower. Via a staircase leading from this church you can reach another older church, in which there are beautiful old icons. Also in the center of the village there is a nice church and along the side of the main road that leads through the village you can find another one.
The Panagia Spiliotissa Monastery is situated between Choudetsi and the village of Agios Vasilios and can be reached via a path (500 meter). Along this path are the Byzantine churches of Saint John and Saint Anthony and two old water mills. The monastery was built on the remains of a church that dates from the 11th century, and which was built inside a rock. The monastery itself dates from the 17th century.
