North of Vourvourou on the Sithonia peninsula in the Halkidiki area you can find the harbour of Ormos Panagias, which arose around an old church. This church dates from the Byzantine period and has been restored in 1970. The name Ormos Panagias means "The harbour of the Virgin Mary". The village is seen as part of the town of Agios Nikolaos, but located a few kilometers south of it. Ormos Panagias is a fairly important port from where the boats leave around 9 o'clock to make an excursion to the Athos peninsula and its monasteries.
In the village of Ormos Panagias there are quite a few accommodations and restaurants and there are a couple of beaches. Most of them you will find around the harbour and towards the square with the church on it. The largest one of these beaches is called Trani Ammouda and it is situated north of the harbour of Ormos Panagias. Sometimes it is also called Livrochio beach. This wide and sandy beach is a 1,8 kilometers long and its waters have a turquoise colour. It's a "blue flag" beach, meaning it is suitable for everybody, the beach and the water is clean and it is safe for swimming. Thus the beach is also perfect for families with small children. Also the bottom of the sea is sandy here, so it is easy to get into the water. Trani Ammouda beach is considered one of the finest beaches in Halkidiki.
Also inside the village of Ormos Panagias and just outside of the village you can find a couple of small sandy beaches.
