|
Apella beach is an organized beach where you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas and there is a tavern where you can eat or drink something. Since the beach was declared the most beautiful beach in Europe by a German newspaper in 2003, it has become increasingly popular and the number of visitors has grown enormously. It can there for become quite busy at Apella beach, especially in high season. Apella beach is a sand and pebble beach with light colored sand and small white pebbles. Off the coast there are a few rocks in the sea that break the waves. A walk from the beach a few hundred meters up the road brings you to the "Apella cave church". It is the Byzantine Agios Loukas church that dates back to the second half of the thirteenth century. This church, built in a cave, contains remains of frescoes that have been well preserved. |
