Fournes is a small village (with the large Greek-Orthodox church of Fournes) built against the hills on the route from Chania and Armeni to the village of Lakki and the Omalos Plateau. In this village is the crossroad to (right hand side) Omalos and the Samaria Gorge and (left hand side) the village of Meskla with its orange fields and Byzantine churches (f.i. the church of the Virgin Mary and the Church of Christ Saviour). In Fournes are the remains of a small castle which is named "kastro".
