The Church of the Koimesis Theotokou is located in the vicinity of the monastery of Agios Giorgos Karydi, not far from Vamos in Apokoronas, just below the village of Vrisses. There is a brown sign on the side of the road that points you to the church. You walk on a path through the olive fields and herds of sheep and as you walk you will see more signs. We had the nicest guide of the entire region: one on four legs.
The small stone church contains frescoes but it was as so often in ancient churches on Crete, closed, so I just made some random pictures through the windows not knowing what it would look like. The church is surrounded by ancient walls of an even earlier date (some pieces date from the 13th century and apparently the Koimesis Church belongs to the nearby Monastery of Karydi).
