<Koutelos Beach near the village of Frangokastelo on Crete
Koutelos Beach is a small pebble beach with beautiful turquoise waters. It is situated in the south of the island of Crete, on the west side of the village of Frangokastelo (the exit is just after Vouvas underneath the village of Nomikiana). Near Nomikiana you find the entrance to the walk through the Imbros Gorge. The beach of Koutelos can be reached over a normal road. There is some kind of fish taverna on the beach and so nude bathing is prohibited (even if the whole beach is deserted these people will come and tell you), so not a good spot for naturists.
The distance to Frangokastelo is about 4 kilometres and the village of Chora Sfakion is situated around 9 kilometres from Koutelos beach.
Besides the taverna there are no other facilities on the beach (so there are also no sunbeds and umbrellas for rent). The beach itself is not too bad: quiet and it consists of coarse sand and some pebbles. There is a rock and there are a a couple of tamarisk trees on the beach for people that are looking for some shade. If you climb over the rocks on the west side of Koutelos beach you can see the beach of Leska, which is a little bit smaller and consists of mainly pebbles with some sand. It is surrounded by cliffs. There are more small coves with beaches in the area that are only accessible by boat.
