The village of Skordilo is an old Cretan village that dates from the Venetian times. The village can be reached via the Sitia - Piskokefalo (exit) - Achladia - Paraspori - Skordilo route. It is assumed that Marinos Skordylis, who was a cousin of the emperor, settled here around 1182. In later times the village was destroyed by the Turks and / or the pirates and then after that rebuilt again.
There are not that many people living in the village any more, just under fifty, and therefore it makes a deserted impression.
From a distance Skordilo looks pretty picturesque. Most houses are made of stone and old and many are derelict. You can see a lot of old architecture like the Turkish (or Venetian?) arches of houses. There are fruit trees in the village and there are two well-kept churches. One of them is at the cemetery at the edge of the village (in the east, it is called the Afenti Christos church) and the other is a little west west of the cemetery along the side of the road.
The Afenti Christos church is the smallest and measures about 12 x 3 meters. It was probably built around 1887.
The other church is called "the Church of the Holy Trinity" and is from a later date. It was placed there because the Afenti Christos church became too small for the inhabitants. The construction began in 1919 and was only completed in 1975.
The Holy Trinity church consists of two aisles / houses with the clock in the center at the front.
