The village of Peza on Crete

Peza is a village just south of the capital of Heraklion. Because Peza is on the route of one of the roads to the south (from Knossos), there is quite a bit of traffic going through the village and it makes a vivid impression. There are a few shops that sell flowers and plants, a couple of mini-markets, a bakery and several kafenions and taverns to choose from. There is also a factory in the village, where the Minos wine is made. The village with about 400 inhabitants makes a nice impression and the locals are very friendly.
At Taverna Onicimoc, which is situated diagonally opposite the village church, the food is very good and this taverna is also popular among the Greek population.

In this taverna we have eaten a few times. It is situated on the main road that runs through the village. We tried the beetroot salad, zucchini balls, lamb chops, okra, tzatziki, the fava, an omelette, fries and a feta-cheese dish from the oven. All the food was actually okay, the white wine was tasty, the lamb chops wer tender and low in fat and also the fries were good.
Our verdict: an 8,5 out of 10
