This small village lies in the south of the Heraklion district in a valley on the edge of the Asterousia mountain range. It is one of the two small villages that you still encounter when you are travelling from Charakas to the beautiful village and the beaches of Tris Ekklisies. The other, even smaller village, between Paranimfi and Charakas is called Amigdalos. Along the route you will pass several nice small churches.
From Paranimfi there is a walking path that runs via Agios Pavlos to the coastal village of Tris Ekklisies. Along the way you will pass the small monastery of St. Paul that dates from the 13th / 14th century. The door post is made of sculpted sandstone and dates from the Venetian period. Some remnants of frescoes can still be seen inside the church. Around the monastery you can still be seen relics of an ancient temple that stood on this spot. There is also a waterfall to the south of the village of Paranimfi.
