The village of Lagolio on the island of Crete

The village of Lagolio is situated in the olive trees fields in the south of Crete just above the The Minoan Palace of Phaistos and 4 kilometer north of the village of Timbaki, where you can find all kinds of amenities. Lagolio is set on the foot of Mount Psiloritis and overlooks the Messara plain. It is an authentic, quiet and small village with a taverna (Imeros) that serves traditional food. In Lagolio there are a couple of rooms for rent. On the edge of the village there is a large church with red coloured roof tiles. It is built in the shape of a cross. At the other side of the village you find the older and smaller village church that dates from 1899.

On a hill in between the village of Lagolio and the village of Grigoria there are the ruins of a Turkish fortress which is called the Grammeni fortress. The village is not far away from the beaches of Kokkinos Pirgos and Kommos (the distance is about 7 kilometers), so if you rent a car this is a village where you can find your peace and quiet while still not being far from the sea. Lagolio is also a good destination for making hikes.
