The village and the beaches of Kalo Nero on the islnd of Crete
Kalo Nero is a small village 6 kilometers east of Makrigialos, in southeast Crete. This part of the island is very quiet. Near Kalo Nero are several beaches, amongst which are a large naturist beach and this small beach in my pictures. Kalo Nero means "good water". In the sea in front of this little beach are a couple of beautiful rocks. From Kalo Nero you can see the island of Koufonisi. The whole area of southeast Crete is very pretty and quiet. A bit outside of Kalo Nero you will find a monastery (Moni Kapsa, also know as the Monastery of John the Baptist, 15th century), the Perivolakia Gorge and several other beaches.
Although the village of Kalo Nero is very quiet there are two tavernas here.
Kalo Nero is a destination for those people that like small, quiet beaches and coves. Also naturists can find a spot for sunbathing and swimming without swimsuits. On the beaches of Kalo Nero are no sun beds or umbrellas for rent. There are however a few beaches where you can find shade under a cliff or a tree. Most beaches are sandy beaches or have small small pebbles and the water everywhere is very clear, so you can see the fish swimming.
